The Department of Geography at Texas State University
(<http://www.geo.txstate.edu>)is seeking highly motivated Master’s and
Doctoral degree seeking applicants for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Texas State is an emerging research institution and the Department of
Geography possesses a vibrant, diverse, and growing faculty with
specialties broadly encompassing geospatial technologies,
human-environment interactions, environmental change, water resources
research, and geographic education. The department has on-campus
affiliations with the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, the
Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education, and the Texas Alliance for
Geographic Education, as well as a history of federally-funded research
involving agencies such as NASA, NSF, and EPA.

In particular, the department is seeking physical geography students
with experience involving geospatial technologies, quantitative methods,
and/or programming skills involving the ability to process and visualize
large weather/climate datasets in various formats (e.g. NetCDF and HDF).
A background in atmospheric science or climatology and interests in
polar and/or middle latitude climate variability and change is

Funding opportunities exist for Graduate Assistantships at the Doctoral
($26,000 over 9 months, renewable up to a maximum of 4 years) and
Master's ($13,097 over 9 months) levels. These assistantships also come
with a waiver of out-of-state tuition for autumn and spring semesters
each year. Graduate Assistants also receive university student health
benefits. The Department also provides some conference-related travel
funding for students presenting at meetings (up to 2 conferences per
year). Additional potential sources of funding, such as full tuition
waivers for Year One of a student's program, and doctoral and master's
research fellowships, are competitively available through the Graduate
College.
