PhD position in Climatology
The group of Climatology of the Institute of Geography, University of
Bern, is offering a PhD position in the area of climate reconstruction
using data assimilation. The successful candidate will further develop
Kalman filter based numerical techniques for reconstructing climate over
the past 400 years by combining early instrumental data, documentary
data and tree-ring proxies with an ensemble of climate model simulations.
The candidate should have a strong basis in climate physics (MSc in
Environmental Sciences, Geography, Physics, or similar), should be
familiar with linear algebra problems, have experience in handling
large, gridded geophysical data sets (specifically climate model output
or reanalyses) and skills in data processing (Fortran, etc.) and
statistics (R or similar). Good English language skills are a prerequisite.
The successful candidate will participate in the PhD programme of the
Graduate School Climate Sciences, University of Bern, Switzerland
(<http://www.oeschger.unibe.ch>).
The position is for 36 months, the starting date is 1 Jan 2016. Please
