SST not changing with Ocean Mixed Layer Model on
Postby gns5000 » Thu Feb 23, 2012 11:42 am
Hello,
I am currently running WRF with omlcall=1, oml_hml0 = 10, and oml_gamma = 1 (very stratified ocean state). With sst_update=0 (constant SST from the Real-Time Global High-Res product), I run WRF and SST doesn't change throughout the run. However, ocean mixed layer depth and ocean mixed layer temperature change accordingly to how the ocean mixed layer model should run. 2-m temperature changes accordingly as well.
I also run WRF with sst_update=1 with the ocean mixed layer model turned on and produce the same results with SST not changing.
Is the SST actually changing in the model but not being output correctly? The model results seem to show this (e.g. winds change) but SST seems to stay constant. I feel like anyone who turns on this ocean mixed layer model would love to see the SST change accordingly.
Thanks for your help,
Greg

Solution to above problem (provided by wrfhelp): TSK is the model skin temp, and over the ocean, it is the model SST.
It seems that "SST" is updated only according to what is provided in the boundary conditions, but "TSK" is what the model produces as output for skin temperature.
