Vacancy: PhD or MS Position at Florida State University, Department
of Geography and Program in Public Health
Description:
Four years of funding available for a graduate student. Support will be
a mix of Research Assistant (at least 2.5 years) and Teaching
Assistant opportunities. The prospective student may start as early as
Winter 2015 or as late as Winter 2016.
Work in a stimulating environment and be a part of cutting edge research
team. The Environmental Protection Agency funded study will examine how
extreme indoor conditions, impact human health (e.g. heat stroke,
influenza). The study will also quantify how future climate change may
increase indoor heat exposure or promote influenza survival. The study
partners with emergency medical services in New York City, NY and
Atlanta, GA.
The position will cover tuition and provide a biweekly stipend. Funded
travel opportunities will be available, including collaboration visits
where appropriate. Florida State University is located in Florida’s
capital city (Tallahassee) affording access to policy makers and state
public health departments.
Duties include:
Assist with data collection
Perform data analysis
Review relevant literature
Disseminate results of research activities at conferences and in
peer-reviewed scientific journals
Work with other research team members and established investigators
Manage project e-mails and other communications
Assist in the training of new researchers
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in scientific field
General computer skills and the curiosity to learn advanced computing
skills for scientific applications such as GIS, R, Matlab and Python
Ability to work independently with general guidance
Excellent organizational and communications skills
