Most WRF users want to use both the pressure-level and surface data to force the model, but CFS V2 does not analyze many of the surface parameters (e.g. - 2m temperature, 10m winds). They are only available as forecasts. The WRF group does not recommend mixing analyses and forecasts. The next question is then "Why not the 1-hour Forecasts?". Because of the WRF's internal clock, timings of some events may occur on a "6-hour" clock (e.g. - when the sun is up, etc.), so to stay consistent with the internal clock, the WRF group recommends using the 6-hour forecasts.
